Generator basics

Most generators have a preset run speed. In the US, our power grid is designed to run at a frequency of 60 Hertz per second. The engine that drives the generator determines the speed of the electricity. For example, if an engine running at 1,800 RPMs turns a generator the correct speed to produce 60 HZ, it would have to be slowed to around 1,500 RPMs to run at 50 HZ. (50 HZ is the standard in many other countries)

Since I hacked into my generator and converted it to natural gas, it no longer has a preset speed. It starts slow then will speed up as I give it more gas, until it reaches its max set speed. Once it reaches it’s max set speed, I plug the power cord into it and load is applied. Once load is applied, the engine will slow down a bit and I need to give it more gas to regain max set speed. Once I set the speed for the current load, the engine will run very smoothly. Here’s the tricky part, once the refrigerator and freezer reach their temperature settings, the compressors for each appliance go off thus reducing the amount of load on my generator's engine. At this point my generator engine has too much fuel supply for the current load and will begin to run a bit choppy. The best way for me to keep the generator engine running smoothly is to add more load. Once the fridge and freezer catch up, I turn on the AC window unit. That way I don’t have to keep readjusting the fuel supply.

Spiritual Throttle

Now that I’ve bored you the death with generator mechanics, let me share with you some wisdom God spoke to me since we’ve been in the after math of Hurricane Ida. When a person has more than enough resources for his present load, he will run choppy. Instead of God having to adjust your resources, add some load to yourself. When all of your needs are met, find some other needs to contribute to. In my book The Elder Son, I teach that needs are a necessity. If you run out, borrow from a friend.

To offer a different analogy than generators, trucks designed for heavy duty, ride much smoother when they are loaded down. Elder sons and daughters were designed for heavy duty. We will always ride much smoother when carrying a load. Once all of your needs are met, find others to help.

 Never ending oil

There was once a widow whose late husband had left her with debts she couldn’t pay. The debt collector had served notice that he was going to take her two sons to be slaves since she could not pay. Not knowing what else to do, she cried to the prophet Elisha for help. Upon hearing her plea, Elisha asked the woman what valuables she possessed. The widow then replied, “Nothing except a pot of oil.” The prophet then instructed the widow to borrow as many containers as she could from her neighbors. Her sons took the containers home and she miraculously filled them all up using her one pot of oil. She was then able to sale the oil for enough money to pay of her debt and then some. (2 Kings 4)

Find more empty containers

I believe as long as we keep finding empty containers, God will supply the oil to fill them. Don’t live in a scarcity mentality. Be generous! If supplies ever get low, God will create more. It’s kind of His thing.
