AVOID PERSONALITY CLASHES
If you want to avoid personality CLASHES in the work place, it helps to understand the four personality types of the DISC personality style assessment.
D - Dominant
I - Influencer
S - Stabilizer
C - Cautious
THE CAUSES OF PERSONALITY CLASHES
It's important for team leaders to understand that not only do people have different strengths and weaknesses, but people also have different motivations and fears. Something that might be a great motivator for one team member could cause someone else to clam up or vehemently protest.
SIX EXAMPLES OF PERSONALITY CLASHES
C & I - Cs like to work efficiently and complete tasks thoroughly while Is like to goof around and jump from assignment to assignment (or rather conversation to conversation)
D & S - Can be a match made in Heaven if healthy boundaries or in place. Ds love to be in charge and Ss prefer having someone else be in charge. Ss, however, like predictability and routine and often reside within a comfort zone. When pushy Ds try to push them out of their comfort zones they can show their teeth. An S can actually appear to be a D during these times.
D & D - Having 2 Ds on the same team can get messy. Both want to be in charge and this usually leads to conflict at the first fork in the road. Ds can accomplish great things working together when they are self-aware and agree to a plan.
C & D - Cs are the greatest asset of Ds. They fill in the gaps and help Ds bring their visions to life by taking care of the nuts and bolts of every project.
C & S - If left alone, this would be a pretty quiet room. Cs & Ss both tend to be reserved. The S will attempt to break the silence since he likes to be friendly but will soon lose interest when he sees that having a conversation with a C is like pulling teeth, especially if she is busy. (which she usually is)
S & I - These 2 always get along great! Is like entertaining and Ss love being entertained. The 2 could find themselves not getting enough work done if left alone. They will need a C or D in the mix to stay on task.
