"We walk by faith and not by sight"  2 Corinthians 5:7

Perhaps one of the greatest challenges of being a Christian is taking leaps of faith. It seems like just when I think that my faith is the strongest it has ever been, God finds a new way to challenge it. And just when I feel as though I can conquer the world, there is a new giant that must be slayed. I think that I have made the mistake of classifying tests of faith as a level of my walk with God that I can graduate from. When in reality, faith tests are the very essence of a walk with God.

What's good about walking by faith, is that it usually doesn’t take very long. It didn’t take Peter long to find out if he could walk on water or not. Even though David had five stones, it only took him one shot to kill Goliath. He just had to be brave enough to go down into the valley. When Esther’s faith was challenged, her step father encouraged her by saying this may be exactly the reason God has put you in this position. Even though the penalty for going to the king’s court uninvited was beheading, she took a short walk of faith and found out that she was able to rescue her people and keep her head. So while taking that first step toward the impossible is very challenging, we can at least rest assured that it will not take long to see God in action or find out that we ate too much pizza the night before and were influenced by a crazy dream.

One of the worst enemies of my faith has been my own imagination. When God gives me a vision He shows me the final destination. My mind then fills in the blanks with the most likely scenarios that must take place in order to reach that destination. The problem with my foreshadowing is that God usually has a completely different route in mind for my journey. I’m learning that I do much better when I focus on what God wants me to focus on and let Him plot the course.
