When I know God is on my side, I have a lot more confidence in what I’m doing. I will even attempt things that are beyond my means because I know that I can do all things through Christ. When I forget that He is with me I become afraid and make irrational decisions.
HOW DOES FAITH IMPACT YOUR LIFE DURING HARD TIMES
Going through good times can mask the symptoms of a sick spirit. A person who is light years away from the Lord can appear just as happy and healthy as someone who is walking closely to the Lord. When everything is going well at home, at work, and in every avenue of life, it causes you to walk with confidence. You feel on top of the world.
The way to tell the difference is by what happens once you enter a stormy season. A spiritually healthy person may appear shaken at first but will quickly rebound as their reservoir of faith is activated. The spiritually sick individual will not have the confidence to stay the course and wait out the storm they will make one irrational decision after another in an effort to get out of the storm.
HOW DOES FAITH IMPACT YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU’RE OUT ON A LIMB
I remember when I was a youth pastor and someone donated a forty-foot-long rope to the church. It became the job of the youth pastor to climb high into a tree and tie the rope to a sturdy limb. I figured this would be an easy task. I had climbed trees my whole life. When I was a child, we had three large trees in my backyard, and I would climb them regularly.
I chose the perfect limb and then proceeded to make my way up to it with the rope. Getting to the limb was a piece of cake. I climbed up the trunk of the tree from one limb to the next just like I had always done. Then came the tricky part. I had to go out far enough on the limb so that I could position the rope to hang down away from the tree. I remember sitting down on the limb and sliding my bottom a little at a time. At first, I was just focused on getting to a certain point that I figured would be the perfect spot. All of a sudden I became keenly aware of my surroundings. I can still remember the dread that gripped me in that moment. It was like I was frozen. I thought to myself, “What in the world are you doing up here?” After a moment I was able to gather myself and complete the mission and the rope was enjoyed by countless young people for many years.
HOW DOES FAITH IMPACT YOUR LIFE TODAY
Are you feeling led by the Holy Spirit to step out on a limb? If you know it’s God leading you, then it is in your best interest to go. Before you go, do your future self a favor. Take some mementos of faith with you. Just because your faith is high right now does not mean it will be for the complete journey.
